Full competition rules
- Only join if you’ll submit
- Only 8 spots — registering is a commitment to upload a beat by the round 1 deadline. A no-show hands your opponent a walkover and takes a spot another producer wanted.
- One beat, the whole battle
- You submit one beat for round 1. If you advance, that same beat carries forward automatically — swapping it before the next round’s upload deadline is optional, never required.
- Length and format
- Submissions must be 1–3 minutes long, MP3 or WAV. Anything outside that window is refused at upload. Filenames and metadata are stripped before judging.
- How a match is decided
- Each match is judged by 2 blind judges plus 1 crowd seat — majority of the 3 seats decides, and the crowd can never decide alone. A tie or a zero-vote crowd seat abstains; if the panel still can’t agree, Widen Island decides. You may be asked to blind-judge another match yourself.
- Deadlines and walkovers
- Late uploads are refused, no exceptions. If one side misses the deadline, the other advances by walkover. If both sides miss it, Widen Island decides how the match resolves.
- No voice tags
- Producer voice tags, drops, or any audible branding are grounds for disqualification — they’d break the blind judging.
- Your name goes public
- By registering, your artist name appears on this page’s public participant list. Nothing else about you — no email, no submission — is ever shown.
FAQ
Do I need a new beat every round?
No — you submit one beat for round 1, and it carries forward automatically if you advance. Swapping it before the next round’s upload deadline is optional, never required.
When is my beat due?
Check the timeline above. Round 1 gives you the most time to make your beat; later rounds only give you a short window to swap it if you want, before voting starts.
How do I join?
Hop into the Widen Island Discord with the "Join on Discord" button on this page, then click Join on the launch post in #🥊・beat-battle. Spots are first come, first served: the first 8 people to click get in, nobody after that.
Is it free?
Yes, entry is free.
Who decides who wins?
A panel of 2 blind judges plus 1 crowd seat. Majority of the 3 seats decides, and the crowd can never decide alone — an unresolved panel goes to Widen Island.
Who can vote?
Anyone signed in with Discord whose account is at least 7 days old — one vote per Discord account per match. Entrants can’t vote in their own battle, and signing in adds you to the Widen Island Discord.
Can I see the votes?
While voting is open, only the total vote count is public. The A/B split shows once results are published.
What if my opponent doesn’t upload?
If one side misses the deadline, the other advances by walkover. If both sides miss it, Widen Island decides.
What if I can’t finish my beat?
Tell Widen Island as early as possible. Before the bracket is drawn, your spot can go to someone else. Once the bracket is drawn, withdrawing means your opponent advances by walkover.
What do I win?
